Public Awareness
|
How about PUBLIC AWARENESS?
Those of us who are fortunate enough to live in and/or
around
Bloomington, IN., have at our disposal one of the
most beautiful sections of Indiana, with Lake Monroe even further enhancing this
beauty by offering the
finest recreational mecca in the whole State.
Let us
face the facts folks - we love our city, we love our lake,
and we love to have others from around this country
come to love our area as well and want to share it
with you. We wish you will join our Public Awareness team,
for as you will find out - it's
so nice to be nice.
Lake
Monroe is approximately 191/2 miles long, has right
at 153 miles of shoreline, and basically is split in
half at the causeway. The upper half is strictly idle
speed only ( 5 mph), and the lower half regular speeds
may be obtained. except in marked idle speed embayments. Should you not observe these
very
important regulations, you will receive a citation for
speeding.
All
of us must be publicly aware there are so many activities
which are enjoyed and available to be enjoyed, you will have many diverse groups
using the facilities
at the same time you are. Fishing boats (large and
small) canoes, paddle boats, jet skis, speed boats, water
skiers, pontoon boats, bird and eagle watchers, hikers, rock hounds, bass boats,
houseboats and quite large pleasure boats, inflatable, rafts, and swimmers. The people using the
lake are all subject to the rules and
regulations just like you and this writer.
It would
be a good suggestion for new visitors to Lake Monroe
to visit the Lake Monroe Visitor Center (directly across
the road from The Fishin' Shedd) There you can pick up a copy of regulations pertaining to the lake.
Please remember Lake
Monroe was built by the U.S. Corp
of Army Engineers, to be used as a flood control reservoir.
It=s
secondary purpose to be used as a recreational
facility. I
want to take this opportunity to thank you for visiting
our web site, and hopefully we can be of service
to you during your visit to Monroe.
Sincerely, Richard B. Shedd
